Suggested Beers to try at Cabin Brewing Company.
IPA - Cold
Cold West Cold IPA is dry, hoppy, crisp & clean, cold fermented with lager yeast and dry hopped west coast-style with Simcoe, Citra, and Centennial. We used pilsner malt and flaked rice to give it that nice, light body *chef’s kiss*.
Wait, so it’s a lager? But it’s also an IPA? And it is dry and crisp, but also fruity and hoppy? The answer is “yes!” to all those very pertinent questions, thanks for asking. And for your information, it is also deadly delicious!
This is our second collaboration with our pals at Kilter Brewing in Winnipeg. They make killer beer and are wonderful people – we’re lucky to have them in our lives.
Pale Ale - New England / Hazy
This Manchester mash-up is one for the books!
In celebration of YYC Neighbour Day 2024. On June 15, the cuties at Cabin and Born collaborated on their FOURTH Neighbour Day beer, and by golly, by gosh, they’ve definitely cracked it this time.
When two good things come together, they become something great. Super Cutie takes the very best of two flagship beers - Super Saturation Hazy Pale Ale by Cabin and Hi Cutie Raspberry & Mint Wheat Ale by Born. It’s hazy and bursting with tropical fruit notes, punctuated by the bright flavours and aromas of fresh raspberries and brought together with a rich, full-bodied wheat base.
Pale Ale - New England / Hazy
We have jammed all the flavours and aromas we possibly could - and then some - into our Hazy Pale Ale. Red wheat and oats provide a soft, pillowy body and silky mouthfeel. With a maelstrom of tropical hop flavours and aromas from out-of-this-world dosing of new world hops - Simcoe, Citra and Mosaic - this hazy beer will fill your heart and saturate your senses.
Malt: Pils, Golden Promise, Red Wheat, Oats
Hops: Citra, Simcoe, Mosaic
Yeast: Escarpment Foggy London
IPA - American
Our take on the classic northwest American IPA shuns the heavy caramel and resin notes typically found in this style for something more refined and unique. Sunshine Rain has been brewed to be balanced, lively, fresh and dry, but doesn’t hold back with an aggressive dank and tropical hop punch.
Hops: Pahto, Citra, Simcoe, Mosaic, Centennial, Loral
Malt: CMC 2 Row, Red Shed Kananaskis, Carafoam, Crystal Light
Yeast: Wyeast 1056 American Ale
Pale Ale - American
Retrospectrum Pale Ale is easy enough to drink every day, yet complex enough to challenge your taste buds every time.
Perfectly balanced with a complex malt body, our hop-forward take on the classic American Pale Ale is exploding with tropical fruit and citrus aromas and flavours, thanks to generous late additions of Citra and Amarillo hops.
Hops: Pahto, Citra, Amarillo, Centennial
Malt: CMC 2 Row, Wheat, Red Shed Rocky Mountain & Biscuit, Carafoam
Yeast: Wyeast 1056 American Ale
IPA - Imperial / Double New England / Hazy
Just like Super Saturation but even more super! More hops, more malt, more haze, more heft, more mmmmmmm. Look up juicy in the dictionary and you’ll find this beer.
Pilsner - German
Luminosity German Pils is the antidote to the year that was. It’s a delicious, easy-drinking lager crafted in the German brewing tradition - one defined by balance, quality ingredients and drinkability.
We let the ingredients tell the story: 100% German Best Pils malt, a Weihenstephan yeast strain with light aromas and clean flavours and a duo of noble European hops (Hallertauer Mittelfruh and Czech Saaz)
It’s crisp, dry and has long-lasting bready malt notes. You’ll notice delightful spicy and floral aromas and a low to medium bitterness that slowly builds as you drink. Hold it to the light and you’ll see the most glorious, gentle golden hue. You’ll want the luminous light to wash over you like a baptism of hope, but don’t linger too long – after all, this is a beer made for drinking.
Malt: CMC Euro-Pils
Hops: Pahto, Hallertauer Mittelfruh, Saaz
Yeast: Fermentis W34/70
IPA - Triple New England / Hazy
How saturated in aroma and flavour can one beer be? We found ourselves pondering that exact question with our good friends at Collective Craft Beer Shop and decided to find out.
To build a big beer, you need wheat, lots of it. And oats, boatloads. Then all the pils malt and flaked barley you can get your hands on. But your beer can’t be totally saturated until you’ve overflown the kettle with as many hops as you can muster.
For this beer, we used Yakima Chief's Cryo Pop Hop Blend, a hop medley of the most delicious sticky compounds, cryogenically frozen to extract all that concentrated lupulin - the aromatic stuff that makes Saturation beers smell so damned saturated. You’ll get mind-boggling notes of stone fruit, citrus and tropical fruit and as the name suggests, the aroma truly pops from the glass.
And for an extra pop of colour, we opted for Summit Labels’ new fluorescent ink labels, which are vibrant during the day, but really come alive at night under a black light.
We’re totally proud – and a little intimidated if we’re being honest – to present Total Saturation Triple NEIPA, our biggest, boldest, most aromatic and flavourful hazy beer to date. It’s a ten percenter that drinks like a sixer, with a texture as fluffy as cotton ball clouds and aromas that will waft over you for an eternity.
How saturated in aroma and flavour can one beer be? The answer is Total Saturation.
Pale Ale - New England / Hazy
Mild - Other
English mild ale is a throwback to a more simple time where people knew who they voted for and why, saw work as a wage rather than a lifestyle, and who chose their beer like they supported their sports team - because it was what you did and it wasn’t worth fussing over.
Simple Pleasures is what we drink to take life back a notch or two. There’s a ton of flavour for a light beer, with notes of light chocolate, biscuit, nuttiness, dried fruit – raisin, plum especially – and pours a delightful mahogany colour.
No pretension. No gimmicks. Just a refreshing, flavourful malt-accented beer that is readily suited to drinking in quantity (and at just 3.8% it’s perfect for having a few).
Stout - Imperial / Double
Say hello to Luna & Fuego’s little cousin…
Just like our barrel-aged Luna & Fuego, we started with a whopping imperial stout with cocoa, cinnamon and vanilla, then spiked it with a trio of chilies – sweet ancho, tangy guajillo and smoky chipotle. We’ve transferred a bunch of this beer to tequila barrels for a long sleep (see you in winter Luna & Fuego V2!) but for now you are in good company with Fuego - it’s unoaked, unaged, all sorts of fun and ready to drink now.
The beer pours a thick, viscous black. The vanilla and cinnamon lend notes of horchata, while the cocoa and chili marry to create a decadently sweet and lingering spicy flavour.
Did we mention it’s smooth? Ridiculously so.
Pale Ale - American
Ours is definitely a close-knit community, and this delightful collaboration pale ale proves it. Brewers from Cabin, Last Best Brewing and Bale Breaker Brewing in Yakima, WA who all worked together in Calgary once upon a time wanted to get together and brew one more beer. One quick hop across the border for hop harvest and the deal was sealed!
Border Hop West Coast Pale Ale features the wonderfully aromatic experimental hop HBC 586 and “frozen fresh” Mosaic hops from Yakima Chief Hops. This oxymoronically named product sees raw, unkilned whole cone hops plucked from the bine and then flash frozen. This process helps retain the delicate nature of fresh hops, even for those hundreds of kilometres (miles for those south of the border…) from the hop fields. Expect bright notes of mango, nectarine, guava, lychee, and a hint of berry.
This beer is great for sharing with your buds – but if you want some, you’d better hop to it. Like the hop harvest season, this beer is limited and will go quick.
Fruit Beer
Remember when things were built to last? When you knew it was home time by the length of the shadows? When dessert was made with loving hands right there in your kitchen, and smelled and tasted better than anything else?
We’ve rolled out our homage to good times and good taste in our Little Red Wagon - again!
Tart red cherries give the beer a most gorgeous violet glow, while delicate additions of cooking spices and Golden Naked Oats have you swearing you’re smelling fresh-baked pie.
Tart acidity at the end of every mouthfeel balances the rich pie flavours and keeps your taste buds fresh and longing for more.
You could eat pie. Our you could get on the wagon and drink it. Yeah, that’s what we thought.
Welcome aboard! Let's roll.
Malt: CMC Superior Pils, Malted Wheat, Golden Naked Oats, Flaked Wheat
Hops: Pahto
Yeast: Lachancea, Cali Ale
Adjuncts: Cinnamon, vanilla, tart & sweet cherry purees
Sour - Fruited Gose
Now, in winter’s twilight, we dream of warmer climes.
Step into summer with us. Our latest cold season pick-me-up provides a vision of the pleasures that lie at the end of these single digit forecasts.
Summer Dreaming Prickly Pear & Agave Gose is an explosion of colour and flavour. Pouring a vibrant pink, it fires out notes of strawberry, watermelon, candy and salt-rimmed margaritas. It’s tart like a lime, dry like the desert and as refreshing as a plunge into a mountain lake on a blistering day. One sip is all you need - but let’s be honest, you’ll probably want a lot more.
Adios, winter blahs!
IPA - New England / Hazy
We’re swooping in at the speed of sound with our latest haze missile, a juicy harbinger of trans-atmospheric radness that’ll detonate your tastebuds like a flavour explosion.
This pocket rocket of thirst annihilation is called Supersonic Hazy IPA and is, if we may say so ourselves, rather delightful. We’re amping the SUPER in Supersonic, and we’re not even sorry.
Hops? Let’s count ‘em up. Mosaic. Wai-iti. Experimental 17701 from Hopsteiner, El Dorado, Talus, CGX Cashmere. If you think that list is a mouthful, just wait until you taste it! It’s stonefruit to the power of tropical juice, wrapped in a fluffy tri-blend blanket of oats, wheat and barley.
Chances are that as soon as you hear about it it’ll be gone, so don’t mess around friends; get a lock on some today.
Malt: Pilsner, Red Wheat, Flaked Oats, Chit, Golden Naked Oats, White Wheat
Hops: Mosaic, Wai-iti, Hopsteiner Exp. 17701, El Dorado, Talus, Cashmere CGX.
Yeast: Escarpment Foggy London
IPA - New England / Hazy
‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house… UH OH! Not a single gift tag can be found! Like usual you’ve left gift wrapping until the very last moment! And you’ve just realized you didn’t buy gift tags! And all the shops are shut! And now there’s a good chance little Timmy will end up with Uncle Randy’s bottle of Scotch by mistake! Oh calamity!
Fear not generous gift giver, for Cabin has you covered. Lil’ Helper isn‘t just a delicious, juicy haze bomb of gastrofantastical proportions, but each can doubles as a gift tag sheet with FIVE unique peel-off gift tags. Buy a four-pack? That’s 20 labels, enough for the whole family. Ol’ Saint Nick would be proud.
Extra stress these holidays? Fuggedaboudit. Wrap gifts, stick on labels, and have a pint of deliciousness - because heaven knows we can all use a lil’ help getting through holiday madness with joy in our hearts.
*Cue choirs of angels*
Malt: Pilsner, Golden Promise, flaked oats, flaked wheat, chit
Hops: El Dorado, Citra, Amarillo, Citra Cryo
Yeast: Foggy London
Schwarzbier
Goodbye sunshine, farewell light. As winter’s twilight looms over the land, we have conjured a wickedly good lager to usher in the cold season.
The Gloaming Black Pilsner is a dark beer for darker days, rich in chocolate, coffee and roasted malt notes. But don’t be fooled: this beer has an ethereal light body that makes it eminently refreshing and sessionable, making it the perfect quencher for raking leaves, trick or treating or shovelling snow.
You can’t escape the dark, so you might as well swallow it up - before it gets you first...
IPA - Imperial / Double New England / Hazy
Giga-whaaaat? Just how saturated can one beer be?
We’re pushing harder and further and smashing flavour boundaries with giga vigour in our quest to find the perfectly saturated haze bomb.
Giga Saturation Imperial IPA (9.1%) features a ludicrous amount of Nectaron, American Noble Mosaic, Citra and El Dorado hops, all crossing beams to create the mother of all tropical flavour explosions.
With the softest of soft bodies from a melange of wheat, oats and barley, Giga Sat is like a loving embrace for your mouth. And it’s giga delicious!
Fresh is best, haze hounds. Get it while you can.
IPA - Rye
The campfire. The kitchen island. The wireless. The games table. Wherever you gather ‘round to make memories, we have a little something to make those magic moments even better.
We gathered ’round the brewhouse with our new friends from Camp Beer Co. in Langley, B.C., our good buds from Dandy Brewing here in Calgary, and the fine folks from Red Shed Malting in Penhold, AB, to brew up some fall magic.
Gather Round West Coast IPA with Rye blends six hop varietals and a melange of pilsner, pale, Vienna, wheat and rye malts from Red Shed to create a flavour that is pithy and piney, with that perfect amount of earthy, grainy sweetness that reminds you of a crisp afternoon stroll through late season undergrowth.
Bring it in, friends. It’s time to get cozy and enjoy fine beer, great friends, and indelible times.
Malt: Red Shed Pils, Pale, Rocky Mountain, Rye Malt, Wheat Malt
Hops: Pahto, Simcoe, Simcoe Cryo, Amarillo, El Dorado, Mosaic Incognito
Yeast: Wyeast 1056
Sour - Fruited Gose
Sure Footed Sea Buckthorn and Orange Zest Gose is brewed to celebrate International Women’s Day 2022. Cabin’s female staff picked the style, ingredients and name and then came together to turn raw ingredients to beer on brew day – and they did good.
The beer is tart and tangy with notes of coriander, orange, pink grapefruit and honey. The choice of main ingredient is very deliberate. Sea buckthorn is incredibly hardy, withstanding almost anything nature can throw at it, all the while producing the most amazing fruit. Sure footed? It sure is, just like the women in this industry who are working harder than anyone else – showing tenacity and perseverance every day - to crush stereotypes about what the craft beer industry looks like.
A dollar from every four-pack and a dollar from every taproom pour of this beer will be donated to @PinkBootsCanada, which provides scholarships, training and opportunities to women working in the fermented beverage industry.
IPA - New England / Hazy
Once or twice a year we take a stroll down the towering shelves of our hop fridge, shake a few bags, take stock of odds and ends, and concoct a IPA-suitable hop blend that utilizes the best of the best hops we have on hand.
These “kitchen sink” brews always turn out wonderfully (Super Duper Saturation was the OG kitchen sink brew!) and this one is no exception. Talus, Meridian, Cryo Pop, HBC 1019, Mosaic and Triumph synchronize in the most harmonious of fashions.
Kitsch in Sync Hazy IPA is soft and juicy, pouring a delightful golden, hazy hue with wild face-meltingly tropical fruit notes of melon, peaches, coconut, mango and pineapple. It’s a fruity delight, and it’s ready now for your next kitchen dance party.
Malt: Pilsner, 2 Row, Flaked Oats, Rocky Mountain
Hops: Triumph, HBC 1019, Mosaic, Talus, Meridian, Cryo Pop
Yeast: Foggy London
Pale Ale - American
For Cabin and Sea Change’s second collaboration beer, our scent-curious brewers set out to explore how the bright notes of fruit-forward, light roast coffee intersected with the citrus hop notes of a west coast pale ale. The result is Sure Shot West Coast Pale Ale (5.5%) and is liquid proof that high quality coffee can be so much more than just a dank, dark pick-me-up.
We used Rwandan Golden Hour beans from Calgary’s Rosso Coffee Roasters, with notes of lemon, brown sugar and Darjeeling tea. Cold brew was added to the beer as it fermented, before it was run through dry, whole beans for a touch more aroma. It pours a tantalizing orange hue, with floral aromas of orange marmalade, lime blossom and bergamot blooming from the glass. It’s tough to tell where the cold brew citrus notes end and the west coast hop aromas begin.
This beer is extremely limited and won’t around for long, so be sure to give it a shot while you can.
Malt: Pilsner, flaked oats, red wheat
Hops: Centennial, Amarillo, Citra
Yeast: Cali Ale
Coffee: Rosso Golden Hour
Pilsner - Other
A delicious beer at a beautiful place in a spectacular setting. Could you ask for more?
For 31 years River Café has been showcasing the taste of Canada from Calgary’s cutest restaurant, nestled among nature in Calgary’s Prince’s Island Park. When the opportunity to work together on a beer came up, we jumped at the chance!
Inspired by their fascination with seasonal ingredients, we looked to the garden and the fields for inspiration and came up with Park Life Gin Botanical What Ale, brewed with 10 different botanicals and a smattering of floral hops to round out the bouquet.
Park Life is popping with spicy, herbal and floral aromas from the botanicals, while the wheat lends a bready aroma with a full-bodied flavour that lingers. At 5% ABV, it’s easy-drinking and a perfect accoutrement for picnics, patio lunches and sunset dinners.
Wheat Beer - Wheat Wine
Life is a marathon, not a sprint. Sometimes you just have to relax, take a deep breath and enjoy what's going on around you.
Slow & Steady Wheat Wine is a beer to take your time with. Aromas slowly open up as it warms, offering notes of toffee, chocolate and plum. The warming flavours steadily develop as you sip, and the heavy wheat content (50%) gives it a full-bodied, creamy mouthfeel with flavours of toasted bread fig, dried fruit and toffee.
Definitely drink it now but make sure you cellar a few cans for later to compare with a version that is aging in barrels - slowly, steadily – until next winter.
Scottish Export Ale
Introducing a beer that Sean Connery himself would be proud to announce; Scottishish Export Ale. While the English often hog the limelight when it comes to malty, easy-drinking pub ales, they sure don’t hold a monopoly. Just north of the wall in bonny Scotland, an entire movement of lower alcohol, slightly darker and mildly sweeter pub ales has emerged to help those from the Highlands to the Lowlands cope with some dastardly wet and cold winters. Nae, our version is not truly Scottish, as we’ve blended highly flavourful British, German and Canadian malts to ensure delectable caramel and toffee notes - but it’s Scottishish and aye, it’s tasty! Malt: Maris Otter, CaraBelge, Caramunich, Honey Malt, Pale Chocolate, Black Bear Hops: EKG, Saaz Yeast: Wyeast 1187 Ringwood
Stout - Pastry
Welcome back to the Night Kitchen, where beer and culinary worlds collide. We start with a full-bodied milk stout and judiciously layer flavour upon flavour to create a beer that is like dessert in a glass, while drinking like a well-balanced beer. For our third iteration of this winter favourite beer we blended eight malts for a rich, complex body and added brown sugar, milk sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla to create a decadent beer that smacks of that most glorious holiday favourite - a mug of eggnog. Let it warm in your hands and enjoy the delectable aromas as they waft out. Try it with a dusting of nutmeg, a scoop of ice cream, a shot of rum or brandy for some extra merry merry, or just drink it on its own. Either way, you won’t be disappointed!
